Michelle is a successful artist and designer that can boast of exhibiting places that include the Saatchi Gallery and the SOFA show in Chicago. So when visiting her I was surprised to find myself heading down an ally covered in litter leading to a derelict warehouse, through gates and a makeshift set of doors that lead me up a dilapidated staircase and into her studio.
Michelle's work is the opposite of her work space. Bright, bold and colourful. Inspired by urban scenes and architecture. She talks me through her design process, precise mathematical translation of design to stencils and the hand pulling of each colour screen on to canvas.
Part of an on-going project to document designer makers.
